Aluminium Composite Panel or ACP is a type of cladding material widely used in the construction industry for various purposes. ACP sheets are very durable, and the installation is also hassle-free. ACP sheets are primarily used for cladding, partitions, sign boards for advertising, and other interior decoration elements. ACP sheet contains two aluminum sheets, and a core made up of minerals or polyethylene. These aluminum sheets are bonded under high temperatures and pressure to form a durable and robust panel. This blog will discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and the most popular types of ACP sheets used in the construction industry.

Types of ACP Sheets based on Thickness

ACP sheets of various thicknesses are available in the market today. The range of thickness is usually between 2mm to 6mm. The thickness of the ACP sheet depends on the client’s specific requirements or the project’s nature. Some of the standard grades of ACP sheets are:

  1. 2mm ACP: 2mm ACP is used for signs and indoor applications. These are primarily used in low-traffic areas.
  2. 3mm ACP: 3mm ACP is used for cladding and interior decoration. These are used in moderate-traffic areas.
  3. 4mm ACP: 4mm ACP is used for building facades and large signs. These are used in high-traffic areas.
  4. 5mm and 6mm ACP: 5mm and 6mm ACP sheets are primarily for high-end architectural projects.

Advantages

  1. Durable & Low Maintenance: ACP sheets are solid and can withstand environmental damage from environmental exposure. ACP sheets are also resistant to moisture, extreme heat, and UV radiation. These sheets do not require frequent maintenance, like cleaning or painting.
  2. Affordable:  Natural cladding materials like stone or marble are costly, whereas ACP sheets are more affordable, making them cost-effective for cladding and decoration.
  3. Lightweight: ACP sheets are very lightweight when compared to other cladding materials. This makes them easy to transport and install.

Disadvantages

  1. Susceptible to damage: ACP sheets can be easily damaged by sharp objects or high-intensity impacts. Once damaged, these cannot be repaired and need to be replaced.
  2. Not environmentally friendly: ACP sheets produce aluminum and polyethylene, which generates harmful waste and emissions. ACP sheets are also non-recyclable.

Conclusion

There are various types of ACP sheets available in the market today. Before purchasing, you should always research your needs and the types of ACP sheets.
